Jack Merritt Hurd was born on 8/19/1924 in Huron, South Dakota. He is the son
of Earl V. and Ruth (Patridge) Hurd. He grew up on the family farm. A few years
later the family moved to Letcher and Jack graduated from the Letcher High School
in 1942.
Jack married Norene Hale on 2/8/1946 at Huron, S.Dak. Norene was born on
10/19/1928 at Huron, S.D., the daughter of Edward Roy Hale and Beryl Ruth
(Chapman) Hale.
He worked for Dakota Alignment in Huron and in 1963 he opened his own busi-
ness called Hurd Alignment. He sold the business in 1988. After retirement, he
did many handyman jobs, drove a bus for the Huron Senior Center, helped build Ace
Hardward and the South Towne Square mini-mall.
Jack passed away at the age of 80 on 6/16/2005. He is interred at the Restlawn
Memorial Gardens Cemetery at Huron, S.D.
Jack and Norene are the parents of 5 children:
