Jack L. Bethell was born in Taft, California to John and Hattie Farmer Bethell. He passed away at home on March 29, 2018
Jack lived most of his life in Fellows, California and moved to Taft in 1987. He worked in the oilfields for Texaco, Honolulu, Tidewater, and Getty Oil in the Midway area from 1959 and retired in 1995.
Jack was an avid sportsman and he loved being outdoors. He enjoyed competitive trap shooting and always looked forward to his annual deer and elk hunting trips to Colorado with his friends and son Mike. He also enjoyed his annual salmon fishing in Trinidad and opening day for trout at Crowley Lake. Whatever season it was he was there with his rifle, shotgun or fishing pole in hand. He will be greatly missed.
Jack is survived by his wife of 38 years Marie. His daughter Lorraine Townsend. Her children Scott and Maggi. Son Mike Bethell (Telena) and their children Jack and James. Step sons Len, Dean and Gary Johnson. Together Marie and Jack shared 12 Grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Jack is also mourned by his beloved black lab Jake.
Graveside Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday April 5, 2018 at West Side District Cemetery at 440 E. Cedar Street in Taft, California. A Viewing will be held on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Erickson & Brown Funeral Home at 501 Lucard St. Taft, California.
