Mrs. Juliette (Lambries Greivell Wolfe) Hightower, age 59, of Thomaston, GA, died Thursday, March 29, 2018, at her residence. Memorial services for Mrs. Hightower will be held Monday, April 2, at 2:00 PM, in the First United Methodist Church of Thomaston. The Reverend Eddie Herring and the Reverend Neisha Davis will officiate, and interment will follow in South View Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the Fellowship Hall of the church from 12:30 until the funeral hour.
Juliette was was born in Royal Oak, Michigan on December 3, 1958 to Juli Arnold Greivell and the late Townsend Durant Wolfe. She graduated in 1977 from Brookfield Central High School in Wisconsin with many honors and scholarships in academics and music. She received a BA degree in Comparative Literature from Indiana University of Ann Arbor Michigan. She then received a full scholarship from Middlebury College in Vermont for French Studies. She later received a grant to study abroad and teach French in Avignon France. She also taught English at The University of Michigan at Ann Arbor. She served as an English teacher in the Peace Corps for 3 years in the Democratic Republic of Congo (formerly known as Zaire), Boende and Equateur.
Juliette spent her childhood summers in Thomaston with her grandparents and later married a Thomaston native. She became an active and valued community volunteer and served TUAC, Main Street, Daughters of American Revolution, Upson Historical Society, Habitat for Humanity, Community Christmas Kitchen, First United Methodist Church and St. Mary's AME Church. She was also an active member of the Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities Advisory Board. In order to help local families, Juliette's most recent pursuit included taking sign language classes.
Juliette's love of music began at a very early age. She was an accomplished pianist and flautist and shared her lovely music with churches, nursing homes and stage productions. Her love and talent for music has been passed on to her children.
First and foremost, Juliette loved her family and was a devoted wife to John and devoted mother to her beloved children. She delighted in all of their accomplishments. She enjoyed her role as a home school teacher, teaching violin and piano, and encouraging them in all their endeavors. Juliette was a life long learner and was a voracious reader. She was a gifted conversationalist and spoke several different languages.
Her loving family left behind includes her devoted husband John Bauer Hightower, daughter Elinor Reid Hightower and son Thomas Ansley Hightower of Thomaston, mother Mrs. Juli Arnold Greivell of Thomaston, Uncle Hays L. (Anna) Arnold of Thomaston. Her siblings include Mary Bryan (James) Giroux of Johns Creek, Ga, John Richard (Lyle) Greivell of Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin, Townsend (Frankie) Wolfe IV of Colorado and Mrs. Zibilla L. Wolfe of Arkansas. She also leaves behind stepmother Dr. Brooks Wolfe of Little Rock, Arkansas. Juliette was a loving and attentive aunt to her nieces and nephews: Drake Kennedy, Jake and Jeffrey Greivell, Hamp and Hannah Hightower and Ann Louisa and Benjamin Brewton Jr.
