Obituary for Edna Mae Funkhouser
Edna Mae Funkhouser, born Edna Mae Towner at Bronaugh, MO, January 18,1888, passed this life at the Pawnee Municipal hospital, at 6:30 AM December 2, 1945, age 57 years, 10 months, and 14 days.
She came with her parents to Oklahoma in 1894 and located six miles NE of Skedee. Here she grew to womanhood where she met and married Verd Funkhouser in July, 1909. To this union were born one daughter and three sons. One son, Carl, preceded her in death, being killed in an army airplane in January, 1942.
Mrs. Funkhouser was a devoted mother to her children and a loyal companion. Of her it could well be said, "She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness. Her children arise up and call her blessed: her husband also, and he praiseth her." "She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; Yea, she reacheth forth her hand to the needy."
She was secretary-treasurer of the Pawnee County Council of the Farm Women's Home Demonstration club and held the same office in her own local, the White Rose club.
She was one of the outstanding Christian women of this community, having been a member of the Methodist church for more than 40 years. At the time of her passing she was president of the W.S.C.S., church pianist, and a member of four major committees.
She leaves to mourn her passing, her husband, Verd Funkhouser; one daughter, Mrs. Viva Dale Welker, Stillwater; two sons, Roland Lester, Morrison, just discharged from the Army; and R. B., Skedee; one brother, Victor B. Towner, and one sister, Mrs. A. B. Davenport, both of Morris, OK; seven grandchildren, other relatives and friends that are as numerous as her acquaintances.
