CIVIL WAR WOMAN DIES AT HUFFTON

MRS. JAMES FRY PASSES AWAY; FUNERAL HELD TUESDAY AFTERNOON AT HOME

Mrs. James Fry passed away at her home near Claremont on Wednesday evening, June 12, at 5:45 o'clock.

Mary Marcum was born in Hancock County, Tennessee, in 1848. Later she and her parents moved to Lee County, Virginia, where she spent her girlhood. Here many hardships of the Civil War were endured by her and her parents. At this time she became a devoted member of the Methodist church. In 1870 she was united in marriage to James Fry. To this union eight children were born. She and her husband moved to the state of Illinois in 1878. They made their home there until 1909; then moved to Montana, where they homesteaded for 13 years near Bainsville, Mont.

In the year of 1923 she and her husband came to South Dakota, where she lived the remainder of her life.

Those surviving are her husband, two daughters, Mrs. Florence McMaham, of Warsaw, Ill.; Mrs. Nellie Hosfield, Bainsville, Mont.; six sons, C. C. Fry, Loraine, Ill.; George, James and John, of Claremont, S. D.,; William Fry, Putney, S. D., and Joe Fry, of Sutter, Ill. Eighteen grand-children and six great-grand-children; also four brothers survive her: Joseph, of Kentucky; Leb, Stevet and Harrison, of Virginia. Two brothers, two sisters and parents preceded her in death.

The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon from the home, conducted by Rev. Benson and the remains were laid to rest in Groton cemetery.
