Mary Lea Sample, wife of Wesley Sample and mother of Jim, Shona and Donald was born September 5, 1941 in Beaver, Oklahoma to Joseph Andrew and Margaret Evelyn (Over) Murdock. She passed away Monday, March 26, 2018 at her home in Guymon at the age of 76.

Mary Lea spent her early years in Liberal, Kansas and in 1947 the family moved to Springer, New Mexico where she attended school and graduated from high school in 1959. At the start of the next school year, she started attending PAMC at Goodwell where she met Wesley Sample. She and Wes were married February 4, 1961 in Springer and returned to Guymon to start their married life. Wes died February 27, 2005.

Mary Lea’s passion was for the Guymon Library and the genealogy department. She was a one time member of the High Plains Chapter DAR, the Early Risers home demonstration group and a proud member of the beginnings of Oklahoma Panhandle Partners in Guymon. She worked alongside her husband, Wes at Allen’s Inc. for several years and was a member of the Morning Star United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her three children: Jim and Teina Sample of Straight, Oklahoma, Shona and Jeff Moore of Amarillo, Texas, and Donald and Fransisca Sample of Houston, Texas; six grandchildren: Jennifer & Cameron Mathis, Kim & John David Wing, Ryan & Jamie Nevius, Mandy Nevius, Lindsey & Matt Nesbitt and Derek & Hannah Moore; step-grandchildren: Jennifer Scruggs and J.D. Scruggs; and great grandchildren: Emma Wing, Jacie Nevius, Camryn Wing and Cole Wing. Also surviving is her brother, Joe Murdock and wife, Mary of Idaho; two special cousins: Marge Sandoval of Colorado and Langley Jones of Oregon; along with many nephews, nieces, in-laws and friends.

Memorial services will be conducted Friday afternoon, March 30th at 2:00 p.m. at the Guymon Church of the Nazarene with Chantry Davis, pastor of the Abundant Grace Church officiating. Services are under the care of the Bunch – Roberts Funeral Home of Guymon.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Oklahoma Panhandle Partners, the High Plains Chapter DAR Library Fund or to a charity of your choice. Memorials will be accepted at the Bunch - Roberts Funeral Home, PO Box 1112, Guymon, OK 73942.
