Ralph Heron, age 62, and resident of Roslyn since 1888 and the oldest member of the Roslyn Fire Department, died Friday, March 27 at the local hospital following an operation for abdominal adhesions performed three days before. Death was due to pneumonia.
Funeral services were held from the Presbyterian Church, Monday afternoon with the Roslyn Aerie No. 696 in charge. Welcome Lodge No. 30 Knight of Phythias conducted the graveside services.
Ralph Heron was born in Blythe, England, March 22, 1874. He came to America when three years old. The family settled first in Illinois, coming to Seattle in 1906 where he operated the Oregon Hotel for nine years before returning to Roslyn, where he had worked in the mines up until his last illness.
He was a member of Seattle Eagles Aerie No. 1 and of the Knights of Pythias of Roslyn. He wore a Veterans button awarded by Seattle Aerie for having been a member of the Eagles for 21 yeas or more. He was well known in the upper county.
Survivors are his widow and four daughters, Mrs. Jack Hendry, Mrs. Reese Thomas and Miss Lorene Heron all of Roslyn and Mrs. Pat Thomas of Yakima, one son, Joe Heron of Roslyn. His mother, Mrs. Jane Heron of Seattle, who is 86 years old, five sisters, Mrs. Jack Reese, Mrs. Mose Kitchen, Mrs. Arthur Jumper, Mrs. Marie Williams, all of Seattle, Mrs. Archie Adams of Renton, two brothers, William and Thomas Heron of Tacoma, 7 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
