John F. (Jack) Casey, 75, of 463 Monument Ave., Wyoming, formerly of Kingston, died Friday, March 23, 2018, at home.

Born March 11, 1943, Jack was the son of the late John F. and Anne Cooper Casey of Kingston.

Mr. Casey was a graduate of Kingston High School, Class of 1961, where he lettered in football and baseball. He was an all-scholastic quarterback in 1960.

Jack was also a graduate of King's College, Class of 1965. He served as a U.S. Army first lieutenant and as an adviser to the South Vietnamese Army during the Vietnam War. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal with "60" Device, One Overseas Service Bar and the Combat Infantryman's Badge.

Mr. Casey served as director of alumni relations and financial aid at King's College from 1970-74. He was a caseworker for Luzerne County from 1974-81. In 1981, Mr. Casey began his career as a caseworker for the state Department of Welfare, serving 26 years and retiring in 2007. After his retirement, Mr. Casey worked as a custodian for the Department of the Interior at Steamtown National Historic Site, Scranton.

He was a volunteer at the West Side Food Bank, Kingston, for 18 years and served as president from 2001 to 2013. Jack was an avid backpacker along with his good buddy, Jim Toolan. He completed more than 10 major backpacking trails in Pennsylvania, logging over 500 trail miles.

Jack was a life member of St. Ignatius Loyola Parish, Kingston, and belonged to the Holy Name Society.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Rita B. Casey.

Surviving are his wife, the former Maryann Augustine; daughters, Kelli Casey, Easton; and Carrie Casey, Westboro, Mass.; grandchildren, John, Shane, Meabh and Hannah; stepsons, Michael (Ann Marie) Augustine, Wyoming; Christopher (Kimberly) Augustine, Pittston; and Brian (Mary Colleen) Augustine, Hagerstown, Md.; step-grandchildren, Kathryn, Jonathan, Samuel, Abigail, Amelie and Sylvia; sister, Patricia (Alex) Pavlick, Kingston.

Jack loved all dearly.

The funeral for Mr. Casey will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday from Hugh P. Boyle & Son Funeral Home Inc., 416 Wyoming Ave., Kingston, with the Rev. Joseph J. Mosely, pastoral vicar, as celebrant.

Interment will be in the parish cemetery, Pringle. Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday.
