James Todd Dean was born, 17 Dec 1854 in Philadelphia , PA. to James Dean and Sarah Todd both recent Irish immigrants. James and Sarah were married in 1854. In Oct of 1855 Sarah died , leaving a 9 month old son. The father james worked as a house carpenter , working with his brother in law George Todd, He moved to Dubuque the Fort Dodge Iowa abt. 1857 . In Dec. of that year James married Lydia Todd sister of his first wife, they had no children of their own. Lydia raised James T as her own son. The family resettled in Humboldt Iowa , farming for a living. James T took over the operation of the farm abt. 1887. James Todd Dean was married 20 Oct 1880 to Eleanor Marrietta Halford.
By 1916 the family were now residents of
Columbus, New Mexico..in the early morning of Mar. 9, Columbus was attacked by 500-600
Mexican revolutionaries, led by Pancho Villa, the town and the army unit were caught by surprise, by the end of the day 70 Villistas and 18 civilian resident were killed including our James Todd Dean, this was known to be the only foreign attack on American soil until 9/11
