Son of Charles Lewis Gober, Sr. and Mary Ann Simmons (per death certificate).

MILITARY:
On August 24, 1861 at age 19 he enlisted in Company K, 4th Mississippi Infantry, at Granada, Mississippi.

J. E. Gober, formerly of Brownwood, died at the home of his son-in-law near Miles on Friday night. The
remains will be shipped to Brownwood, arriving this evening. Funeral services will be held from the
home of his daughter, Mrs. J.W. Lockhart, 1202 Melwood Avenue on Sunday. Mr. Gober was a
confederate soldier and served faithfully throughout the Civil War.

The funeral of J. E. Gober was held at the home of his daughter Mrs. J. W. Lockhart, Sunday afternoon at 4:30 o'clock.
Mr. Gober was widely known in and around Brownwood, having lived here 15 years. He was loved by all who knew him. He was an invalid for several years, and although he was a constant sufferer, he always had a pleasant word for everyone.
He was 78 years old, and 60 that was spent serving his master. His death has caused a gloom of sadness over his many friends.
He is survived by six children, one sister, and several grand children. The children are:
Mrs.J. W Lockhart of this city, Mrs. J. W. Dowd of bangs, Mrs. C. L. James of Miles, Mrs. C. L. Stacy of Desdemona, Mr. R. S. Gober, Melvin, and Mr. W E. Gober of McKinney.
