Mary Ellen Michener

Mary Ellen, daughter of George W. and Phoebe Pierce Atkinson was born at South Solon, Ohio April 7, 1869 and departed from this life December 30, 1930 at her home near Truro, Iowa, after a brief illness with pneumonia.

On September 3, 1890 she was married to Frank W. Michener of New Sharon, Iowa at which they first made their home. Eight children came to gladden this home. Raymond and Carroll passed away at the ages of two and seven. The six who live are Grace Conover of Newberg, Oregon, H. Paul of Highgate, Jamaica, Dwight W. of New York City, Guy L. of Knoxville, Iowa, Erroll D. and Mildred Ruth. Her husband, a brother, Elton Atkinson of Osceola, five small grandchildren and many relatives and friends feel deeply their loss.

Mrs. Michener will long be remembered as a loving wife and mother and sincere Christian worker. While a member of the Friend's church at Oskaloosa, she was faithful in the work of the local M. E. Sunday School in both churches, and in the county Sunday School work. She was deeply interest in peace movements and all efforts to establish world brotherhood.

Her home has been recognized by many as a place where young people loved to go for wholesome amusement and where older ones could find comfort and inspiration.

While deeply saddened by our loss, we are comforted by the knowledge that she has passed to the rest beyond where earthly sorrows will not mar her everlasting peace.
