He is the son of Abraham and Christina Hugunin.

In the spring of 1805 (possible in the previous year) the family of Daniel Hununin arrived in Oswego and fom that time forward were prominent members of the community. Mr. Hugunin was descended from French Ancestory, but he was reared among the Dutch settlers in the Mohawk Valley with him came his grown sons, Peter D, Daniel Jr, Abram D; and his younger sons Robert, Hiram and Leonard and 4 daughters.

Daniel owned the last slave in Oswego County.
He married Mary Garrabrant January 6, 1781 in New York, New YorkWhen the cemetery was closed his body and other relatives were relocated to Riverside Cemetery.
