Edward J. Letzkus, 68 of Midland, died unexpectedly, Wednesday evening December 1, 2010 at the MidMichigan Medical Center. He was born on September 23, 1942 in Saginaw, son of the late Joseph J. and Alma R. (Knieling) Letzkus. He graduated from Arthur Hill Tech. Ed married the former JoAnn Rosebrock on September 23, 1967 in Saginaw. He had worked for 40 plus years at the Midland Daily News as a photo-tech. Ed served with the U.S. Army from 1964 to 1966 serving in Germany. He enjoyed spending time with his family and grandkids and especially enjoyed watching his grandkids play sports. Ed was an avid sports fan. He also enjoyed going up to Sault St. Marie and watching the freighters go through the locks. Ed enjoyed taking trips on the freighters where his son is a captain. He is survived by his wife, JoAnn; three sons, Joe Letzkus of Midland, Jim (Stephanie) Letzkus of Midland, and Jeff Letzkus and fiancé Alison Drake of Sanford; one brother, Walter (Janice) Letzkus of Saginaw; one sister, Martha Frost of Shields; one sister-in-law, Ardith Letzkus; seven grandchildren, Alecia, Brad, Cassidy, Bailey, Kaylee, Morgan, and Connor. In addition to his parents, Edward was predeceased by three brothers, Arnold, Martin, Johnny Letzkus; two sisters, Elizabeth Hughes and JoAnn Rosebrock; two brothers-in-law, Ron Frost and Franklin Rosebrock; one sister-in-law, Irma Reese. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Monday, December 6, 2010 from St. Johns Lutheran Church with Pastor Daniel Kempin officiating. Military honors will be presented by the Midland Area Veterans. Eds family will receive friends at the Ware Smith Woolever Funeral Home, 1200 West Wheeler Street on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. and at the church on Monday from 10 a.m. until time of service. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider St. Johns Lutheran Church (Kitchen Fund).
