Palm Beach Post, The (FL) - Thursday, July 13, 2000

Arthur (Ace) Causier, 87, of Vero Beach, died July 6, 2000, at Indian River Memorial Hospital, unexpectedly. He was born April 1, 1913, in Detroit, MI and moved to Vero Beach in 1965 from Lakeland, FL. Mr. Causier graduated from Palm Beach High School in 1933, where he was named "outstanding baseball player" in his senior year and "All-State shortstop" in 1932. He attended Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, Ga. on a baseball scholarship and pursued a degree in journalism. He played semi-professional and minor-league baseball from 1935 to 1939 and was affiliated with the Pittsburgh Pirates. Mr. Causier coached Pony League youth baseball for several years in West Palm Beach and in 1955 his team won the state tournament. He coachedAmerican Legion baseball in West Palm Beach for several years. He was a baseball scout for the New York Yankees and the Kansas City Athletics. Mr. Causier was a Dist. Mgr. for Independent Life and Accident Insurance Co. of West Palm Beach, Lakeland and Ft. Pierce. He was a veteran of W.W. II serving in the U.S. Coast Guard. He was a longtime member of the First Methodist Church in West Palm Beach.

He is survived by: his wife of 59 years, Nina Sasser Causier of Vero Beach; son, David A. Causier, M.D. of Seal Beach, CA.; three daughters, Judith L. Causier of Minneapolis, and Shirley A. Causier Ledbetter and Susan J. Causier both of Gainesville, FL; brother, John F. Causier of Pinehurst, NC: three grandchildren, Elizabeth A. Ledbetter, Brian M. Ledbetter and Robert B. Mueller, all of Gainesville, FL, eight nieces and four nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 14, at 11 A.M., at Christ By the Sea United Methodist Church, Vero Beach, with Dr. Richard Bingham, pastor, officiating. Interment will take place at a later date in West Palm Beach, at Woodlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in his memory to the Arthur Causier Memorial Fund for Gifford Central Little League at 4875 43rd Ave., Gifford, FL 32967 Attn. Freddie Woolfork, the Endowment Fund of Christ by the Sea United Methodist Church, 3755 Highway A1A, Vero Beach, FL 32963 or the American Cancer Society, Indian River Chapter, 1401 21st St., Vero Beach, FL 32960.
