"Black Gold" was the son of Andrew Jackson Adkison and Mary Lou Johnson Adkison. He was educated in the Houston County School System and graduated from the Houston County Training School in Perry, Georgia with the Class of 1966. He was employed with Robins Air Force Base in Warner Robins, Georgia as an aircraft trainer, retiring in 1992 after 25 years of service. After retiring, he worked as a Detail Paint Specialist until his health failed. He also worked as a car salesman for United Nissan and Nissan South in Atlanta, Georgia and Jeff Smith Nissan in Perry, Georgia and Tampa, Florida. He earned Annual Salesman of the year while employed at these locations.

He joined the Shiloh Baptist Church in Henderson, Georgia at an early age. He later joined the Temple Of Miracles Fellowship in Perry, Georgia and New Hope International in Warner Robins, Georgia. In 2016, he stepped out to be saved and turned his life over to God at the Roberta Church of God in Roberta, Georgia.

Joseph was passionate about spearheading class reunions so that his classmates could fellowship with one another. He was on the HCTS Scholarship Committee and was the number one ticket salesman for the Annual HCTS Alumni School Dance. He was also passionate about encouraging family members to come together for reunions. He was an entrepreneur, involved with Disco Village in Perry, Georgia; Alcohol Lounge in Warner Robins, Georgia; Illusions of Macon, Georgia and J.D.'s Touch Of Class in Macon. He coached the "Disco Village Booty Kickers" of Perry also with several Houston County Recreation Department teams. He also played for the Perry Athletics.

He was preceded in death by 2 sisters; Ruth Adkison and Jacquline Adkison Jones and 1 grandson; Joseph Chevalier Adkison and 1 granddaughter; Monica LaShundra Adkison.

Survivors:
3 Daughters: Varncheria Napier(Antonio), Larzarnia Adkison and Kia Boyd(Amerg).
2 Sons: Eric Adkison(Tracy) and Jared Adkison.
5 Sisters: Mattie Lester, Annie Eva Alford, Ruby Dennis, Gwen Cheatman(Van) and Shirley Jackson.
3 Brothers: Ira Alford, Andrew Adkison(Evelyn) and Tracey Adkison(Diane).
2 Devoted Friends: Barbara Irby and Clarence Copeland.
9 Grandchildren: Johnnie, Austin, Jaron, LaShae, Brandon, Jalen, Kennedy and Jordan.
6 Great Grandchildren: Kymani, Brailyn, Dylan, Tyler, Morgan and Bella.

Services were held Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at 2PM in the Sanctuary of New Hope Baptist Church in Perry, Georgia.
