Johannus David “JD” Wright, Sr., age 96, of Gastonia, was a son to the late Ambrose Peter and Ida Page Wright. He was also predeceased by his beloved wife of 51 years, Mary Elizabeth “Lib” Rollins Wright; his daughter, Lisa W. England; brother, Lee R. Wright; sisters, Blanche Swistack, Lucille Mayhew, and Betty Roberts.
Mr. Wright served his country in the US Navy during World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater. He attended UNC Chapel Hill, and worked in printing first, with The Shelby Star and then retiring from the Gaston Gazette with 30 years of service. He was a longtime, active member of First Baptist Church of Gastonia and enjoyed working in the children’s Sunday School in his earlier years.
Interment in Gaston Memorial Park with Military Rites performed by the Gaston County Honor Guard.
