Alonso Robert Lonnie Duderstadt, 96, of Boling died March 13, 2018.
He was born Jan. 12, 1922, in Meyersville to the late August and Frances (Franke) Duderstadt.
He served his country as a Tech. Sgt. in the USA Signal Corps during WWII from January 1943 to January 1946. His assignments took him to New Guinea and the Phillipine Islands. His military decorations included the American Theater Campaign Medal Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with 3 Bronze Stars: The Phillipine Liberation Ribbon with 1 Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal Meritorious Unit Award, Victory Ribbon 1 Service Stripe and 2 Overseas Service Bars. He attended Texas Lutheran College and enjoyed playing drums in a small band with Art Rode, former Bishop of the ELCA. After completing his studies at the University of Texas, Lonnie was employed with an international oil company. Upon being promoted, he was told to fire all his fellow workers in his division. Lonnie promptly submitted his resignation and began his own businesses. One of those was a partnership with his brother A. J. Duderstadt. They owned a café with a bar and delighted us with amusing and sometimes hair-raising stories. Lonnie had a wonderful sense of humor and was passionate about life, environmental oil issues, family and friends.
He is survived by his sister, several nieces and nephews and numerous other relative and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brother.
