Pierce Haskell Abbott was the son of Pierce Samuel and Chole Frances Haskell Abbott. He enlisted in the US Army Air Corp as an aerial photographer on Nov. 2, 1942 in Los Angeles, CA serving until he received his honorable discharge on Jan. 26, 1946 at the Army Separation Base in Santa Ana, Calif. Some of his recognition's included an American Theater Ribbon, World War II Victory Medal and a Good Conduct Medal.

He was married to Katherine (Kay) Hagedon on Sept. 3, 1944 in Rock Rapids, Iowa. To this union were born; Karen, Steve and William. They made their home in Sioux City where Bud completed his education, earning a business degree from Morningside College. Upon graduation he worked at several financial institutions before starting a career with the Allstate Insurance Agency, which extended over the next 35 years. He was inducted into the coveted Conference of Champions and received the Honor Ring.

In 1955 he was elected Jaycee President and named "Most Outstanding Young Man" in Sioux City. He also played a very active role in the Shriners and held several offices during the early and organizational years of the Sioux City River-Cade. Beginning in 1988 in Sierra Vista he was involved in a barbershop quartet called the "Cochise Chordsmen" who received an "Artist of the Year" award.

On January 5, 1980 Bud lost Kay, his wife of 36 years, to a long struggle with cancer. On March 26, 1983, he was united in marriage to his present wife, Charlotte.

Bud enjoyed car racing, which was evident by his boyhood participation in five Soap-Box Derbys and then graduated to dirt track racing and ownership of both midget and sprint cars. Bud also co-owned an F Class Run-About racing boat which broke the world speed record for its class in 1969.

He also had a love for the Iowa Great Lakes, which was evident by the family's yearly camping trips and eventual summer residence on East Lake Okoboji.

In part to Bud's love in talking and helping other people, he owned and operated a small business known to most as the "Prop Shop." But most of all, Bud enjoyed being with his grandchildren and family.
