Shadel's Colonial Chapel (Lebanon MO) Obituary:

GLENNON MORTON LONG, JR., son of Glennon Morton Long Sr., and Dorthy Daughtry Long, was born September 29, 1947, in Clarendon, Arkansas, and departed this life July 15, 2017, in Rolla, Missouri, at the age of sixty-nine years. Butch, as he was known to family and friends, was of the Catholic faith.

Butch proudly served our country in the United States Army and National Guard for many years. He also served during the Vietnam War. During his service time, Butch and his family did a lot of moving and traveled often. He was proud of his service time and dedicated to the future of our country.

Butch was united in marriage with Barbara Ann Scott and to this union was born seven children. Four of his children are surviving, his infant triplets, Glennon III, Glennon IV, and Sheilia Jo, preceded him death. Barbara also preceded him in death.

On September 20, 2002, Butch was united in marriage with Carole Elaine Southard. Together they had shared nearly fifteen years of love and wonderful memories.

Butch was a hard worker. He worked as an ambulance driver, worked with the funeral home, and was also a new and used car salesman for a period of time. He was the owner and operator of Patriot Gunsmith in Lebanon and Rolla. He was trusted by his customers. They appreciated his knowledge and expertise.

Although he worked hard, Butch was also involved with several community organizations. He was active in the VFW in Lebanon. He was a member of the Abou Ben Adhem Temple and active member of the South Central Shrine Club in Rolla. He was a Kiwanis member, and member of Rolla Masonic Lodge #176 and Scottish Rite. The camaraderie he shared with the other members was very important to him.

In his free time, he enjoyed hunting, surfing, and scuba diving, golf, and restoring old cars. He was a helicopter mechanic and an avid Dallas Cowboys and St. Louis Cardinals fan. Butch had a full life and loved every minute of it, especially the times shared and memories made with his family.

He leaves to celebrate his memory, his wife Carole Long; one son, Thomas Long and his wife Sammie of St. James, MO; three daughters, Tammy Burris of Atlanta, GA, Angela Toman and her husband Toby of Salem, MO, and Pam Sharp of Hartville, MO; one step-son, Jonathan Ayres and his wife Paula of Bois d'Arc, MO; his father, Glennon Long, Sr. of Clarendon, AR; one brother, Andy Long of the state of Arkansas; one sister, Beverly Dedman of Clarendon, AR; his father-in-law, Fred Southard of Lebanon, MO; ten grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends. Butch was also preceded in death by his mother; his step-mother, Cybil Long; and several step-siblings.

He will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him.
