OBITUARY OF L. G. BARRACLOUGH

Lawrence Greenwood Barraclough was born in Adwalton, Yorkshire County, England, August 27, 1868. He was the only son of William and Sallie Barraclough.

When two years of age he with his parents came to the United States and settled in Pennsylvania. They returned to England the following year and remained there until 1878 and they crossed the Atlantic again when Mr. Barraclough was ten years old. This time they settled in Osage County, Kansas near Lyndon, Osage City and Burlingame and spent the remainder of his life with the exception of two years in California, in other points of Kansas and Missouri.

He received his naturalization papers in Lyndon, Kansas in 1911, thereby becoming an American citizen.

He was deputy county marshal, also treasurer both while in Kansas.

He was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Lyndon and a Mason and Shriner.

Mr. Barraclough was married to Sadie O'Connar of Richmond, Mo., January 24, 1891 and to this union nine children were born, two dying in infancy and Lawrence Jr., was killed while in service with the Union Pacific Railroad Company in1922, four boys and two girls surviving.

He was always very proud of the fact that he had four sons in World War I and two sons and six grandsons in World War II. William E. serving in both wars.

He spend forty-six years of his life working for different railroad companies and lastly from August 15, 1915 until time for his retirement in May 1936, he was employed as a switchman for the Union Pacific in Armstrong Yards in Kansas City, Kansas.

He was married to Mayme A. Shipley of Cameron, Mo., October 5, 1926.

After his retirement they spent two years in California trying to regain his health, later located in Hamilton, Mo., and was deputy county marshal two years and police judge from 1941 until 1945.

While his health was not good for a year or two he was not seriously ill until he took to his bed on July 23 and was confined to his bed until he passed away August 8, 1948 at 6:45 p.m.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mayme A. Barraclough of the home in Hamilton, and four sons, John Barraclough of 1015 Washington, St., William E. of 4843 East 7th St, Herman L. of 1015 Jefferson St,. all of Kansas City, Mo.,; Sanuel E of Walteria, Calif., and two daughters Mrs Frances William of 1516 New Jersey and Mrs. Bertha Stauch of 1109 Barnett, Kansas City, Kansas: six grandchildren and five great grandchildren and all were present at the funeral and had visited him frequently since be came to Hamilton and during his illness.

The funeral services were held Tuesday, August 10 at 9:30 a.m. at the Gibson & Sons Chapel in Kansas City, Kansas and burial took place in the family lot at Burlingame, Kansas at 1:30 p.m.

He was 79 years, 11 months and 8 days old at the time of his passing.
