The Yazoo City Weekly Whig, Yazoo City, Miss. 10-21-1853:
“In Death Not Divided.”
How truly has the above promise been verified in the death of Dr. R. R. Corbin and his estimable wife; both of whom died of the prevailing epidemic—the Dr. on the 14th and his wife on the 15th.* Scarce had the manly spirit of the husband taken its flight to that clime of perpetual bliss, ere the Almighty thought proper to call from this world of suffering and sorrow the tender and devoted wife, that the two freed and redeemed spirits might be united in the courts of his heavenly mansion, never again to be seperated. Among the many homes revaged by the prevailing epidemic, none have been made so completely desolate as that from which this excellent father and mother have been taken.
-----
* The sexton’s report in the Yazoo Democrat, 10-5-1853, reported that Dr. Corbin died on the 4th and Mrs. Dr. Corbin on the 5th. The epidemic was yellow fever.
-----
Richard R. Corbin married Mary Mallory 6-28-1827, Norfolk City, Va.

1850 census, Yazoo, Miss:
R R Corbin 49
M K Corbin 36
Charles F K Corbin 3 (b Miss)
M F Perkins Corbin 0 (male, b Miss)

Other children, including Fillmore Mallory Corbin, 1853-1931, were born after this census.

UPDATE by contributor Mike Mack (50299472):
Dr. Gawin Lane 'G. L.' Corbin was Richard Randolph Corbin's half brother. Richard Randolph was married to Maria Beverley. She was pregnant when he died. The child was Dr. G. L. Corbin (b. 1799), named after Col Gawin Lane Corbin, Maria Beverley's second husband who adopted the child. Richard Randolph Corbin was born 2 years later. Dr. G. L. Corbin settled in Warwick County. John Randolph Corbin was his child and Richard Randolph's nephew.
I am doing research on Newport News (formerly Warwick County) history and due to the burning in the Civil War, there is very little on this era. If anyone has any information on Dr. G. L. Corbin, please email me at [email protected].
