Dewey Tucker, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather passed away on 26 Feb. 2018 at the age of 94. He was born on 18 June 1923 in Salt Lake City to Andrew Mason Tucker and Florence Isabell Guymon. He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. South High School was where he graduated and also served in the ROTC.
Dewey was drafted into the Army on 21 Dec. 1942 and after Basic Training was sent to the Old Ordinance School to learn about the 35mm and 50 caliber machine guns. He was assigned the position of nose gunner on a B24 Heavy Bomber. For a period of time he was stationed in Burns, Oregon where he walked 3 miles into town to attend church. There he met Evelyn Evadine Stewart and her Mom who loved to bake him lemon meringue pies. One of the things that has always been said in the family is that Dewey married Evadine for her Mom's lemon pies! Dewey and Evadine were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on 26 Jan. 1945. He finished out WWII while stationed in the Philippines.
After moving back to Burns with his wife, Dewey worked for Edward Hines Lumber Company for 22 years and were blessed with 5 children: Dewey Duane Tucker (Bertha Beach) Vancouver, WA; Richard Tucker (Linda Wirt) West Point, UT; David Tucker (Susan Harward, deceased) Layton, UT; Debra Faw (Wayne Faw) Elgin, OR and Deanna Lee (Paul Lee) Sandy, UT. With the Family he loved to swim in the Hines swimming pool, camp, fish and hunt in the National Forests nearby. Dewey served as a Branch President and was instrumental in getting a newer building for the Church to meet in.
He moved his family to Corvallis, Oregon in 1968 where most of the children attended College and Dewey and Evadine owned the Rich Maid Ice Cream Store. There the family learned to love the handmade ice cream, sherbets, hamburgers and other great food they served. Hewlett-Packard was the last company Dewey worked for before retiring. Being that close to the Oregon coast was fun and he loved to go deep sea fishing.
Dewey and Evadine moved to West Point, Utah in 2010 to be close to their children who have been caring for them in their home.
Dewey was preceded in death by his parents; half-brothers Edwardell, who died as a child, Edwardean; half-sister Deon and brother Grant who was killed in action 1944 in Europe. He is survived by his wife of 73 years, 5 children, 20 grandchildren and 44 great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, March 12, 2018 at 11:00 AM with a viewing prior from 10:00 - 10:45 AM at the West Point 6th Ward Church Building 3290 West 800 North, West Point, Utah
