Word was received in Hiawatha late Tuesday afternoon of death of 2 persons by lightning, on Whelan farm, 1 1/2 miles northeast of Purcell. Melvin Fridell, 13-year-old son of George Fridell, and Jack Stillane, hired hand, were instantly killed while standing in a barn door during downpour of rain. Father of the dead boy was back in the barn when the bolt struck. hew was knocked down and stunned but was soon resuscitated.
