from the Osage City Free Press 07 Mar 1918:
"Jacob B. Hunt was born in Mahoning Co., Ohio, Feb. 25, 1844, and departed this life in his home at Barclay, Kans., Feb 26, 1918, being 75 years of age. At the age of 17, he enlisted in the 10th O.V.C., serving three years, and was mustered out with honorable discharge at the close of the war. He was married to Mary. C. Stanley, March 3, 1867. Five years later they moved to Kansas, locating first about seven miles north of Lyndon, where they remained until the year 1892, at which time they moved to Barclay, that they might be near the Friends church. To this union were born seven children, five of whom with the wife remain to mourn his loss. Mrs. E.L. Weaver, Wm. R. Hunt and Mrs. E.E. Painter, of Barclay; Mrs. Harry Jones of Alexander, Kansas, and Delbert Hunt of Barclay. Besides his own family, he gave a home to his brother's son, Eugene Hunt, who still survives and loves and reverences him as a father. At an early age, he gave his life in consecration to the service of God and as near as possible in the human flesh lived consistent and faithful to the end. For several years past in his affliction, he had the constant care of his loving, dutiful and faithful wife; thus their attachment for each other grew stronger as the days went by. Many times he expressed his appreciation of the tender and loving care of his companion and children. One year ago the 3d of March they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with all the children and 16 grandchildren, except one, present. As a neighbor, he was always ready to lend a helping hand to a friend or foe, and seemed the happiest when he had his friends and relatives around him to give them shelter or entertainment. He always had a smile for everybody and will be missed by all. The funeral services were held in the Friends church by the pastor, Robt. C. Smith. Burial was in Barclay Cemetery."
