Richard W. Hyde, 60, Director of Community Health Partners, driving force in the development of New Ireland Cancer Center

Richard W. " Dick" Hyde, 60 of Lorain died on Tuesday, July 1, 2003, at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph in Lorain, OH following a long illness. He was born May 29, 1943 and West Pittson, PA and resided in Lorain for the past 25 years.

Mr. Hyde was a graduate of Springfield College, in Massachusetts where he received his bachelors degree in 1965. He also graduated from Michigan State University, with a Masters Degree of group work and guidance and counseling in 1967. He then received his certification in the National Planned Giving institute at the College of William & Mary in Virginia in 1995.

His many accomplishments involved YMCA program work in Jerusalem Israel, assistant director of Camp Becket in Massachusetts, program director for the YMCA in Boston Massachusetts and in Detroit, MI, which led to the position of assistant director of the Lorain Family YMCA. Hyde began his fund raising career as a consultant for George Bentz & Associates and then with J. Donovan & Associates. He then began his work as assistant director for the Lorain County Community College Foundation, where he began the University Partnership Program. Hyde's ultimate achievement came as Director of Community Health Partners Foundation: he helped establish the New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph on Community Heath Partner's Campus. He also was the driving force for the development of the New Ireland Cancer Center at Community Health Partners.

Mr. Hyde was a member of Christ United Methodist Church where he was instrumental in establishing the endowment fund. He was also a member of the Lorain Rotary Club.

His enjoyments and hobbies included the YMCA Indian Guides, sailing, assisting with musical productions at Lorain High School/Lorain Admiral King High School and antique clocks. One of his greatest personal passions was flying. He was successful in bringing the "Yankee Air Force" and the Yankee Lady B-17 to the Lorain County Airport. As well, Mr. Hyde also had the opportunity to fly many World War II planes and was a member of the Canadian Air Force.

Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Sharon (nee Dixson) Hyde, daughter Shelly Czatt of Sheffield Lake, one grandson, sisters Harriette VanHorn of Mifflinberg, Pennsylvania, Joanne Black of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania and many other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents Wallis T. and Josephine (nee Gorman) Hyde.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, July 7th 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at Christ United Methodist Church, 3015 Meister Road, Lorain Ohio. Rev. Matt Darrin, pastor Of Christ United Methodist Church, Rev. John Gross and Rev Mark Pemberton will officiate.

The family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the Dick Hyde Legacy Campaign to the Ireland Cancer Center at Community Health Partners, The Center for Body, Mind & Spirit, 41201 Schaden Road, Elyria, Ohio 44035.
