A lifelong resident of Henderson County; Mr. Newman loved working on the Sawmill and hunting and fishing. He was a Godly Christian who loved his family more than anything else and a father who loved his children unconditionally. If you did wrong, he would tell you and never mention it again.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Virginia Newman; two sons, Michael Newman and his wife, Pam and Gary Newman and his wife, Paula; two daughters, Kay Murphy and Cynthia Newman; seven grandchildren, Heath, Josh, Jacob, Alicia, Andrew, Ciara and Dakota; six great-grandchildren, Leah, Caitlyn, Jaxon, Victoria, Gabriel and Mika Rose; two sisters, Judy Sweeney and her husband, Chris and Barbara Ann Hennigar; and by numerous nieces and nephews, extended family and longtime family friend, Laura Swaringen.
His funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 9th, 2018 in the Sanctuary of Fletcher First Baptist Church officiated by the Reverend Roy Waldroup and grandson Heath Newman. Burial will follow in Shepherd Memorial Park.
His family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations in Flays memory be directed to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105; or to the American Cancer Society, 930 A. Wellness Drive, Greenville, NC 27834.
