Andrew Jackson Rainey was the 5th child of David Irvin Rainey and Elizabeth Lawson (Rainey). He was born in either Greene County or Sumter County Alabama and migrated west with his parents to Clarksville, Red River County Texas. He served in the 27th Regement, Texas Cavalry, 1st Texas Legion as a Confederate private. When the war ended, he returned to farming and married Lunetta Caldwell in 1866 and they had 5 children. When Lunetta died, he married Mary Penney and they had 2 children.
