Richard Rockne Bitter

Evansville, IN - Richard Rockne Bitter, 88, of Evansville, passed away Thursday, November 14, 2019 at St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville.

Richard was born April 4, 1931 in Evansville to the late Ronald Emil and Ruth E. (Clark) Bitter. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean War retired from Alcoa where he worked in the maintenance department. Richard was a lifelong member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church; an active member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society and a member of the Tri-State Wood Carvers Association. He enjoyed spending his summers fishing and camping at the lake with his family.

Surviving are two daughters, Cathy (Steve) Manning and Theresa (David) Martin; four sons, Richard (Karen) Bitter, Greg Bitter, Matt Bitter and Kevin Bitter; grandchildren, Chris Manning, Aaron Manning, Heather Brown, Jake Martin, Chelsea Johnson, Rayne Bitter, Brynn Barnaby, Shane Bitter, Luke and Seth as well as fifteen great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by the love of his life and wife of 60 years, Carolyn (Steckler) Bitter in 2013; by a sister, Martha McCoy and brother, Ronnie Bitter.

There will be a memorial mass held at 10:00 AM on Monday, November 18, 2019 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, Rev. Stephen Lintzenich. The Vanderburgh County Retired Veterans Memorial Club will conduct military rites. Private entombment will be held in St. Joseph Cemetery.
