Two deaths in one home
On Monday December 3, Mrs. Martha J. Sinclair daughter of Mrs. Susan Pennington triumphantly entered her eternal home. Mrs. Sinclair was 53 years old and for the last 29 years she had been a widow. During her widowhood she made her home with her mother. The last five years of her life she had suffered with bronchial asthma whose iron grasp made her an invalid. During her illness her mothers only object in living seemed to be to administer to her unfortunate daughter, and it was said by those who noticed the constant devotion and increasing devotion by mother and daughter, that one could not live without the other. On Thursday November 29th it was seen that her strength was failing and on Monday night she slept peacefully. Never more to awake and endure her usual suffering but opened her eyes into a world that knows no death. Mrs. Sinclair was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church for 25 years. Was a noble repute as a consistent and noble woman and was respected and loved by all who knew her. The burial took place December 5th in Cherry Grove Cemetery. The deceased is survived by one daughter Mrs. L. J. Newman of Nordmont. Mrs. Newman took sick the night her mother died and is still very ill. Her consistent care for her mother and unexpected bereavement were more than her physique could undergo. She now suffers from an attack of pneumonia and pleurisy. Her physician is hopeful of her recovery and all her friends and neighbors express their sympathy in prayers and well wishes.
When the grief stricken family returned from the funeral only to be eye witness the death of the devoted mother Mrs. Susan Ann Pennington. She became sick the day after her daughters strength failed. The funeral service was held at Cherry Grove Church Saturday December 8. The Rev Mr. Dunn assisted the pastor by preaching a well prepared sermon. Her earthly remains were committee to the grave beside those of her daughter. Mrs. Pennington came to Davidson township ads a little girl. her parents were the first settlers of this section.
When she married she started housekeeping at Nordmont where she has lived 63 years without changing her residence. She was the mother of 5 children and has been a widow for 20 years and was at the time of her death 79 years 6 months and 25 days. Her two sons Joseph C. and Jefferson went to battle in the Civil War to fight for the battles of their country. The former returned in victory with his comrades, the other gave his life for causes he wanted to vindicate. Three of her children survive her, Joseph C. of Nordmont, Mrs. Corson of Glen Mawr, and a married daughter in Nebraska who was bereaved for the death of her husband prior to the death of her mother and sister. She has been a member of the Methodist Church for 60 years. Her charitable spirit and her strong Christian character and her excellent judgment life after her. She was devout, kind and hospitable, a devoted mother and a good neighbor, and her removal leaves a great void not only in her bereaved family but in a circle of many friends who revere her memory.
