ALEXANDRIA — Richard L. "Dick" McClead, 56, Alexandria, died April 3, 2007, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis after a sudden illness.

He was born Sept. 19, 1950, in Anderson, the son of Keith McClead and Thelma (Gustin) McClead, and resided in the Alexandria area all of his lifetime.

Dick was a graduate of Alexandria-Monroe High School-Class of 1969. He began his career into automotive repair with his father's business, McClead's Texaco in Alexandria, where he started on the payroll at the age of 14. The business later evolved into McClead's Marathon. In 1981, he and his wife purchased the former Sayre Fuels station and began operating as McClead's Automotive Service of Alexandria.

Dick enjoyed fishing, camping and bowling. As both a businessman and a friend, Dick McClead always gave more than he ever received or expected. In his own humble way, Dick always went the extra mile for anyone that he came in contact with.

Survivors include his wife, Lelia (Hosier) McClead, whom he married June 11, 1971; two daughters, Angie (Steve) Finney of Alexandria and April McClead of Alexandria; a son, Rick (Andrea) McClead of Summitville; five grandchildren, Stephany Finney, Bradley Dailey, Cole McClead, Savannah Malston and Meadow Kerrigan; an aunt, Maxine Fuqua of Alexandria; three nieces, Robyn (Robb) Myers of Durham, N.C., Jennifer (Jerry) Hunt of Warsaw, Ky., and Taylor DeLong of Elwood; a nephew, Jim Barton II of Alexandria; mother-in-law, Lucille Hosier of Orestes; sister-in-law, Teddy (Ron) DeLong of Elwood; and several special cousins and friends, including the much-appreciated but underpaid volunteer "staff" at the service station.

He was preceded in death by his father in 1991; mother in 1995; infant brother, Danny Keith McClead in 1947; sister, Karen Stockton in 1994; and father-in-law, Ted J. Hosier.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Noffze Funeral Home, 501 N. Harrison St., Alexandria, with the Rev. Courtley Granger, pastor of Orestes Christian Church, officiating. Burial will be in Park View Cemetery in Alexandria.

Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the D.A.R.E. program of the Madison County Sheriff's Department or the Orestes Christian Church through the funeral home.
