Enoch Hanks had lived in Mansfield & Ashford, CT & Hebron & Greenwich, NY. In 1802, he moved from Mansfield, Tolland County, CT to Ashford, Windham County, CT and thence to Hebron, Washington County, NY. in 1803, he went with his father's family to Greenwich, Washington County, NY. He was a deacon in the Baptist Church and justice of the peace for many years. He owned a large sawmill, and was known throughout the countryside as "Squire Hanks"
