N.J. Scardena dies; chief tool engineer

Nance Joseph Scardena, 57, of RD 1, Vermilion Road, Amherst, died early this morning at Lorain Community Hospital.

He was born in Follansbee, W. Va., March 25, 1920, and had live the past 15 years in Amherst. He was chief tool engineer at Cleveland Steel Products in Wellington until November 1976, when he retired on early disability.

Mr. Scardena was a member of Nativity BVM Catholic Church, South Amherst, and served in U.S. Army in World War II.

He is survived by his wife, Josephine (nee Mearns); a son, David, servving in the U.S. Army at Fort Knox, Ky.; a daughter, Mrs. Stephen (Nancy) Schrader of South Amherst; two granddaughters; and two sisters, Mrs. John (Mary) Meluch of Lorain; and Mrs. Alex (Sarah) Caruloff of Amherst.

Friends will be received today from 7 to 10 p.m. and tomorrow from 2 to 4 and 7 to 10 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home, Amherst, where rosary services will be said tomrrow at 7:30 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at Nativity BVM Catholic Church, South Amherst, Friday at 9:30 a.m. with prayers at 9 a.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Wallace Roth, pastor, will officiate.

Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Amherst.
