Lester R Manley was born on 28 February 1909 in Taney County, Missouri. He was the third of seven children born to William Edgar & Minerva Jane (Ivy) Manley.

On 28 February 1927, Lester married my aunt, Margaret Pearl Clark. They lived for a while in Taney County, then moved to Idaho to work in a logging camp. This was during the Great Depression. They were eventually led to Northern California, where Pearl's brother, Tom, and other relatives had moved.

Lester & Aunt Pearl finally moved to the small mountain community of Challenge, where Lester worked the timber in the Sierras of Upper Yuba and Butte Counties. He and his brothers had formed a logging concern.

On 21 November 1944, Uncle Les was killed in a logging truck accident. He was hauling a load of logs to a mill in Yuba County. While he was unloading, the logs fell on top of him, killing him almost instantly. He was 35 years old.

Aunt Pearl was riding along with him, and witnessed the accident. She was never the same after his death. He was the love of her life. They had been married for 17 years.

In addition to his wife & son, Jack, he was survived by his father, 2 sisters and 4 brothers.
