John G. Cowitch Sr., 88, of Northampton, passed away peacefully Saturday, February 24, 2018 at ManorCare Health Services in Bethlehem. He was the husband of the late Mary (Heigl) Cowitch. Born July 25, 1929 in Hokendauqua, he was the son of the late George and Helen (Bartas) Cowitch. John worked at Allen Drug Supply Company for many years. He was also the owner and operator of JC News and Beauty World both in the Trexlertown Mall. John along with his sons, was the owner and operator of Whitehall Christmas Trees for over 50 years. He honorably served his country as a Sergeant in the United States Airforce during WW II. John was a member of Queenship of Mary Church.
Survivors: sons, John G. Cowitch Jr. and his wife, Rosemarie, of FL, Leonard Cowitch and his wife, Patricia, George Cowitch and his wife, Valerie and Robert Cowitch and his wife, Tracey, all of Northampton; 10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; sister, Margaret Kuchera of Northampton. John was predeceased by sisters, Dorothy Kuchera, Helen Dobish and Mary Check.
Services: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. in Queenship of Mary Church, 1324 Newport Ave., Northampton. Family and friends may call Wednesday 8:30 - 10:00 a.m. in Reichel Funeral Home, 326 E. 21st St., Northampton. Burial with military honors will follow in Our Lady of Hungary Cemetery.
