"Wallace D. Dockall, 94, of San Marcos, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, February 21, 2018. He was born in Houston, Texas, to Emil and Leona (Jackson) Dockall on December 17, 1923. He lived in Gay Hill and Rogers, Texas before moving to Rockdale where he graduated from Rockdale High School in 1941.
Wallace enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1943 and served in the Army Air Corps 504th Bomb Group as a radio and radar operator on the B-29 aircraft located on Tinian Island, Pacific. Following the war, he attended Southwest Texas State Teachers College (Texas State University) in San Marcos where he earned his B.S. in Chemistry and M.A. in Education and was SWT's first All-American football player. He married the love of his life, Lila (Rauch) Dockall, in Rockdale, Texas in 1947.
Wallace taught chemistry and coached football and basketball at San Marcos High School (1948 – 1952) and Stephen F. Austin High School (1953 – 1961), leading the Austin High basketball team to the state finals in 1960. He served as Principal at Travis High School in Austin (1962 – 1964), and moved to San Marcos in 1965 where he served as Center Director for the Gary Job Corps vocational training center. He was appointed Executive Director of the Texas Education Foundation overseeing the Job Corps Centers in Texas until his retirement in 1993.
Wallace was a charter member of the U.S. Army Reserves 363rd Support Group in San Marcos and became Commander in 1974, receiving the Legion of Merit medal and retiring at the rank of Colonel in 1978. He received the distinguished Texas State Alumni Award in 1982.
Wallace and Lila became members of the First United Methodist Church in 1966 and served the church and the community by sharing their faith in Christ. Wallace was actively involved with the San Marcos Kiwanis Club. He enjoyed racquetball, water and snow skiing, boating, watching sports and devotional reading. Wallace is preceded in death by his wife, Lila."
