Mrs. Catherine A. Kaufman of Port Jervis, NY, died Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at Bon Secours Community Hospital. She was 68. She was born May 3, 1949 in Port Jervis, NY the daughter of the late William and Mabel Hotalen Zenes.

Cathy graduated from Delaware Valley High School, she also attended the Matamoras Elementary School and St. Mary's Catholic School for Kindergarten and first grade. Cathy first worked at Kolmar back in the late 60's, right out of school. She moved to California for 2 years and then moved back to Matamoras. She retired in 2005 after 24 years, dispatching for Pike County 911 in Milford. Cathy was one of the original few that helped start Pike County 911. She also worked for the Port Jervis School System for 4 years until retirement. For the 911 center, Cathy took courses to be a 911 Medical Dispatcher for over the phone emergencies. She was trained to give the callers directions in First Aid and how to handle emergency calls. Her courses included Practical firefighting courses in Pike County and New York; Incident Command in NY and PA; Wild Land Search and Rescue in NY; Emergency Response to Terrorism Tactical Considerations and Haz Mat in NY. Her Fire Police courses in NY and PA covered CPR, AED and OSHA every year. Cathy was involved with the Matamoras Fire Department where her father was the Fire Chief. She belonged to the Port Jervis Volunteer Ambulance Corp in the 1970's as an EMT and also the 1st Lt., for 2 years. She was a member of Howard Wheat Engine Co. #4 and was the first female Captain of the Port Jervis Fire Department. Cathy was a member of the Port Jervis Fire Police where she served as the secretary and 1st Lt. She was the Grand Marshall for the Orange County Parade in 2001. She also was a member of the Orange County Fire Police and Secretary for 3 years. Cathy served as a member of the Orange Co. Fireman's Assoc., Delegate to Pike Co. Federation and was a member of the Pike Co. Fire Police. Cathy was privileged to work Fire Police for two Pike County Coordinators, Dick Canouse and Jim May for their funerals. Cathy had the chance to meet President John F. Kennedy and the Governor of Scranton in September 1963 in Milford, where she had front row seats.

Her daughter Dawn Krentz and her husband Erin
Grandchildren: Christie Krentz and her husband David Storms Jr., Noah Krentz and his wife Elizabeth, Jacob and Luke Krentz.
Great Grandchildren: Brooke, Skyler, Evelyn and Tucker,
Brothers: Joseph Zenes, John Zenes and Art Hinkel.
Sister: Jo-Ann Howell.
Sisters in law: Paige Phillips Zenes, Pam Hinkel and Cheryl Olver.
Nieces and Nephews: Nicole, Will, Tiffanee, Carter, Calla and Hadleigh Zenes and Derek Hinkel,.
Aunt Helen Kowinsky and several great cousins.

She was predeceased by her beloved daughter, Cassie Lynn Kaufman; Brother, Robert Hinkel and her grandparents, Alex and Bertha Zenes and Daniel and Mae Hotalen.

There will be no visitation. A graveside service will be held on Sunday, February 25, 2018 at 1pm at the Pine Grove Cemetery, Matamoras, PA. Cremation was held at MacLennan Hall Crematorium, Milford, PA.
