Owen Lee Cockrell passed away at his home in Harvey, Louisiana, on February 10, 2018, at the age of 73.

Owen is survived by his wife of 49 years, Linda de la Gardelle Cockrell; and his children, Ellen Cockrell of Pearl River, Owen Lee Cockrell Jr (Elizabeth) of Slidell, and Casey Cockrell Truxillo (Chance) of Marrero. He is the grandfather of Evan Rullman, Luke Rullman, Isabella Chacon, Victoria Truxillo, Carson Cockrell, and Cameron Cockrell. He is survived by his sisters Mickie Cockrell Tooraen, Jude Cockrell Lauland (Robert), and Toni Cockrell Ford (Roger) and sister-in-law Ann Cockrell.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lafayette Lee Cockrell and Bernice Boudreaux Cockrell, and his brother Charles Oscar Cockrell.

Owen was born in New Orleans on August 29, 1944, and grew up in Gretna, Louisiana. At the age of ten, he lost his father and assumed the responsibility for his family in a role he would fulfill the rest of his days. He attended Gretna High School and completed his general education degree.

He volunteered for service in the United States Marine Corps from 1964 to 1967, and served in Vietnam.

Owen worked in the oil industry and completed 35 years at Alliance Refinery in Belle Chasse, Louisiana before retiring in 2006. During his off-time, he enjoyed trawling with his family. He was everyone's big brother and everyone's best friend.

The concern and love for his family, the humor, the wit, the creativity, the sarcasm, instilled in and carried on by his own children. He enjoyed spending time with his family, his dog Tilly, and creating his own vocabulary such as shim-wah-dee-da and colly-rank boom-boom Jim.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the memorial service and interment at Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Slidell on Monday, February 26, 2018, at 12:30 PM.
