Alexander Moore is credited with helping build Sauk Centre as one of the earliest settlers of the area. A prominent landowner and state legislator, he was also instrumental in bringing the railroad through Sauk Centre. Moore was the person who gave Sauk Centre its name, in 1857 by making the suggestion to his colleagues (who also offered suggestions) - they all voted on the name they liked the best.
