He was married on August 12, 1960 in Robertson County to Jayne Harriett Briggs (1940-2021).
Jerry was a member of Temple Baptist Church, was retired from DuPont in 1993, and he had a passion for trains and music - preferably old country, gospel and bluegrass - and he never met a stranger.
Living in Old Hickory, he was 79 years old when he passed away at home on February 21, 2018.
Preceded in death by his parents, brothers Joseph DeRice "J D" Gibbs (1927-1927), Claudine "Claude" Gibbs (1928-1971) and Willie Carl "Bill" Gibbs (1925-2002) and by his son Stephen Richard "Richie" Gibbs (1968–2016), Jerry was survived by his wife, two married sons, six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and other family members and friends.
Celebration of Life Services were held at the chapel of Hermitage Funeral Home, and burial was in Hermitage Memorial Gardens.
