Alice R. Vollmers, 98, Grafton, died Jan. 2, 2018, in Lutheran Sunset Home, Grafton. Alice was born Aug. 14, 1919, to Herman and Mary Fridgen in Dumont, Minn. She was the oldest of six children. Alice graduated from Wheaton High School, Wheaton, Minn., in 1927. She married Walter Vollmers, Sr. on April 30, 1939. Walter Sr. was a grain elevator manager, and they lived in several towns before settling in Drayton, where Alice enjoyed curling, golfing, and spending time at Lake of The Woods fishing.

After the death of Walter Sr. in 1965, Alice went to work for Drayton Public School. She was the secretary there for 23 years until her retirement. Alice lived in the same house for 52 years before moving to Tisdale Manor in Drayton for two and a half years. Due to health reasons, she moved to the Lutheran Sunset Home in Grafton in August 2006.
She is survived by her daughter, Kathleen Hollands, her son, Walter; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and sister, Jeanne Kvick.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Sr.; sons, Gerald, Darrel, Leonard; and daughter, Barbara.
