88, passed away on May 8, 2015 at her home in Jeffersonville.
Helen Douglas Opel was born February 7, 1927 in Wood River, IL.
She is survived by her spouse of 58 years, Mervin C. Opel, 86; son, Harry N. Opel, 57, and his wife, Karen Opel, Newport News, VA; daughter, Susan O. Rheney, 55, and her husband, Clarke Rheney, Greensboro, GA; and sister, Louise Grant, 92, La Place, LA. She is preceded in death by parents, Florence and Roy Armes; sister, Margaret Middlecoff; daughter, Lana Zakrzewski.
Helen was active in her church, St. Luke's United Church of Christ, Meals on Wheels, Clark County Homemakers and the Jeffersonville Public Library. She was a life-long animal lover.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at 11 a.m. at St. Luke's United Church of Christ, 329 Walnut Street, Jeffersonville. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until service.
Her family appreciates and thanks the team of Caregivers & Friends that greatly improved her quality of life over the last several years.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Luke's, The Alzheimer's Association, or SPCA
