Born to David Bates and Connie Peterson, Trent graduated from Shelley High School and attended Ricks College. He worked construction and installed flooring. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and loved animals, especially horses. Survivors beside his parents included sister Trenna Bates, brother Todd (Laura) Bates, brother Trevor (Adria) Bates, and sister Tauna Bates. Not buried in Taylor Cemetery.
