Death of Mrs. J. W. Meeks

Mrs. J. W. Meeks, about 70 years old, one of the best known and most popular ladies in the city, died at her home, No. 1718 East Fifth Avenue Wednesday afternoon after a lingering illness. She is survived by her husband, a well-known business man of this city, one sister, Mrs. Harper of Little Rock; three nephews, Dr. H. B. Wiggs, of Russellville; James Harper of Little Rock, and James Wiggs, of Nashville, Tenn.; three nieces, Miss Lucy Harper of Little Rock; Mrs. Lucy Donald of Alabama, and Miss Virginia Hart of Alabama.
Mrs. Meeks was a resident of this city for many years and had taken a prominent part in church and social work. She was a member of David O. Dodd Chapter, U.D. C., and the members of the chapter attended the funeral in a body from the family residence at 10 o’clock Thursday morning. The services were conducted by Rev. V. Harris, of Fordyce, assisted by Rev. Otto Whittington, pastor of Ohio Street Baptist Church. The following acted as pall bearers: K. D. Westall, Creed Caldwell, J. M. Shaw, H. B. Strange, Phil Hierschapiel and H. A. McCoy. Interment at Bellwood Cemetery.
