Richard E. Anderson, 81, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died Wednesday, February 14, 2018, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

Visitation will be held from noon until 6:00 p.m., on Sunday, February 18th, at Olson~Powell Memorial Chapel, where the family will greet friends from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. that afternoon. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Monday, February 19th at Olson~Powell Memorial Chapel with Pastor Guy Sammons officiating. Burial will follow in Salem East Cemetery. Gifts of love and friendship may be given to University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital. On-line condolences may be directed to www.olsonpowell.com.

Born September 16, 1936, in Mt. Pleasant, IA, Richard Edward, was the son of William Peter and Mildred (Hauf) Anderson. He was a 1955 graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School. He served in the United States Army during peace time. In March of 1966, Richard married Karen Elizabeth Lathrop at Kahoka, MO. They later divorced, but they have remained good friends and companions.

Richard was a heavy equipment operator before working for Champion Spark Plug for over 40 years in maintenance. After retiring from Champion, he delivered the Mt. Pleasant Shopper for 19 years.

The outdoors was Richard’s joy. He spent time hunting, participating in field trials with his dogs, and selling dog and hunting supplies all around the country through Anderson Dog Supply. An avid Cubs fan, Richard enjoyed the 2016 World Series. He was close to his grandchildren and great grandchildren and loved time with his family.

Surviving Richard are his wife, Karen; two sons,; one daughter Teresa ; one sister Marilyn; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Along with his parents, Richard was preceded in death by one daughter, Terri Anderson; two sisters, Marcella Ensminger and Marie Ensminger; two brothers, Carl Anderson and Wayne Anderson; and one granddaughter, Autum Twidwell.
