IRON RIVER-John Isaacson, 59, of 260 W. Hagerman Lake Road, died unexpectedly June 5 at the Iron County Community Hospital.
He was born Oct. 27, 1944 in Chicago, the son of the late Clarence and Elvera (Lindbloom) Isaacson. His family moved to Melbourne, Fla. where he spent his younger years. His parents spent the summer and fall months at their cottage on Hagerman Lake and he attended the Stambaugh Schools. He attended school in Florida and when his parents built a permanent home at Hagerman Lake he attended the Stambaugh High School where he graduated in 1962. He attended Northern Michigan University where he received a degree in biological sciences in 1967. He worked at the Great Lakes Naval Base in their lab doing research on meningitis. His enjoyment of the outdoors led to his becoming the manager of the Smoky Lake Reserve in Phelps, Wis. for several years. Returning to Iron River, he worked as a Metropolitan Life Insurance agent and then became self-employed as a drywall and painting contractor. He also worked as a substitute teacher for the West Iron County Public School System. He enjoyed the outdoors and spent many enjoyable times at his Brule River Camp and was one of the original members of the U.P. Championship Rodeo Committee. He enjoyed gardening, growing apple trees, and most recently had built a trout pond at his home. In his younger years he played pool and was a trap shooter at the Camp Gibbs Recreational Center. He had also been an avid water skier and could water ski on a canoe paddle. On May 13, 1967 he married Patricia Mitchell at the former Blessed Sacrament Church in Stambaugh. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Kermit and Milford.
