Anthony's parents were Edmund Hersey Allen and Alice C Harkins. He married Eleanor Gorsuch in 1865. They had at least 8 children: Alice, Kersey F, Martha Jane (Fee Holverstadt), Anna Belle (Yinger), Elva May (White), Nora Lavinia (Brandenburg) Bertha Pearl (Allton), and Minnie Laticia (Pfaadt). Eleanor died in 1886 while giving birth, possibly to twins.

Anthony remarried in 1887 to Laura Davis who was much younger than he was. They had two children: Lyman Davis and Vera Lougora (Forman).
