Sergeant Lawrence "Larry" D. Dwyer, DSN 4675, received his commission on 03/11/1963 and entered the Saint Louis Metropolitan Police Academy. Sergeant Dwyer's assignments after the academy were the 4Th, and the Bureau of Field Operations. He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant on 10/23/1982 and transferred to the 3rd District as a "Line Platoon Supervisor." Sergeant Dwyer remained in the 3Rd until he retired on 04/02/1990. During his career Sergeant Dwyer was awarded 2 Letters of Honorable Mention on 08/20/1982, and on 11/22/1987. He was also the recipient of 1 letter for Exceptional Performance of Duty on 11/22/1968. Sergeant Dwyer served a total of 27 years and 21 days of faithful and dedicated service to the Saint Louis Metropolitan Police Department. Sergeant Dwyer was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and served on active duty from 07/1958 to 07/1961 and achieved the rank of Lance Corporal.


Lawrence Dale Dwyer of St. James, Missouri passed away Friday, February 9, 2018 at Silverstone Place, in Rolla, Missouri at the age of 77. Lawrence was born on September 25, 1940 in St. Louis, Missouri to the late Glennon and Bertha Dwyer.

Lawrence was united in marriage to the late Barbara Jean (nee Koch) Dwyer on June 16, 1962, this union was blessed with two daughters. Lawrence proudly served his County in the United States Marine Corps from 1958-1961. He than started his career in Law Enforcement, serving as a Police Officer in St. Louis, Missouri. After he retired Lawrence and Barbara moved to St. James, where they bought a farm outside of town. They would spend many good years at the farm, planning and planting a garden, when the harvest came they would can and freeze what they could for the winter months ahead. Lawrence was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church for many years; he enjoyed fishing, and practicing his shooting abilities. Lawrence was an avid stamp collector, he also enjoyed a good book, always preferring a religious book over anything else.

Lawrence is survived by his daughter, Lori Helling and husband Jeff, of St. Charles, MO; granddaughters, Kristen Myrick and husband Jason, and Lindsey Helling; great-grandchildren, Cullen, Ridley, and Graham.
In addition to his parents Lawrence was preceded in death by his wife Barbara in 2017, daughter Careen Dwyer, sister, Jacquelyn, and brother, James Dwyer.

A Funeral Mass for Lawrence D. Dwyer will be held Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at 11:00AM at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. James, Missouri with Father Henry Ussher officiating. Internment will be at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery.
