Edward Joseph Adams, age 85, of Mt. Ayr, Iowa, the son of Michael and Katherine (Gergley) Adams, was born November 7, 1932, at Hiteman, Iowa. He left this life on Thursday, February 8, 2018, from Mt. Ayr Health Care Center in Mt. Ayr, Iowa.

Ed grew up and attended school in Albia, Iowa. He joined the United States Army in February of 1953, and served at Ft. Sills, Oklahoma. Upon his discharge in February of 1955, he returned to Iowa, settled in Newton, and started a job at Maytag. On August 20, 1955, Eddie married Laura Viola Adams at his parent’s home in Albia, Iowa. They were blessed with two children, Cynthia and Michael. Ed was good to everybody and in 1985, when he retired all the other employees wanted to make sure they got to tell him good-bye and good luck. He and Laura lived near Jacksonville, Florida but traveled the United States, wintering in Arizona for several years. Later they moved to Grand River, Iowa before moving to Mount Ayr, Iowa last year.

In his free time, Ed enjoyed fishing, shrimping, and camping. He liked to play billards, horseshoes, and casino slots, but Bingo was his favorite pastime. The couple enjoyed anything historical and remodeling houses together in Newton and Grand River. They also enjoyed visiting zoos during their travels.

Preceding him in death were his parents; daughter, Cindy Stewart; siblings, Michael Adams, Helen Loup and Verna Hunter; and parents-in-law, Freda and Russell Adams. Survivors include his wife, Laura Adams, of Mt. Ayr; one son; grandchildren, Zac and friend, Tina, Julia, Eddie, and Jane; sister, Ann; nieces and nephews; cousins; good friends, Ronald and Theola; and other relatives and friends.

A memorial mass will be held at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Grand River, Iowa at 10:30 a.m. February 15, 2018, with Father David Polich officiating. Burial will be in the Grand River Cemetery, Grand River, Iowa.
