James (Jim) Stanford Whiting, age 66, passed away Feb. 1, 2018, in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Jim was born in Weiser, Idaho, May 23, 1951, to Stan and Enid Whiting. He married Darla Hurd on Aug. 23, 1971, in the Oakland, California Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Jim retired after 22 years as a Captain in a branch of the Naval Services, as a Director of Nursing in the Indian Health Services. His career took them to many areas of the West and overseas during Mercy Missions.

Jim was an active member of the LDS Church and in his community. Jim enjoyed camping, fishing, and above all, spending time with his family in McCall.

He will always be remembered for his compassion and his willingness to help others, and to his family as a Father, Grandfather, Brother and Son who loved unconditionally. A life well lived.

Jim is survived by his wife Darla, his children, Kelly (Laura), Tyson, Claudia, Elizabeth (Robert), Sandi, and John. His brother Chuck (Cathy), brother Ron (Lorraine), sister Sherri (Kevin) and sister Anna (Bryon). Fifteen grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and one great-grandchild on the way. He was preceded in death by his parents Stan and Enid, his sisters Cindy and Bonnie, and brother Rob.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Feb. 9, 2018, 10 a.m. at the LDS Church in Weiser, Idaho. A viewing will be held Thursday, Feb. 8, 2018, from 6-8 p.m. at Thomason Funeral Home, Weiser, Idaho.
