Obituary, Lake Lawn Metairie cemetery:

John Allan McLellan, beloved husband of Marie Favrot McLellan and son of the late Charles and Marie Ernestine Bres McLellan, died peacefully at home on March 22, 2013 at the age of 90.

Mr. McLellan was a graduate of the New Orleans Academy, Tulane University, Tulane NROTC, and the Banking School of the South at LSU.

During World War II he served in the Navy in the Pacific, commanding a minesweeper by the age of 22. He remained in the Naval Reserve for 20 years, retiring with the rank of Lt. Commander. After the war he studied art in France and then travelled to Australia where he worked on a sheep station for several years.

He returned home to New Orleans and founded an accounting firm as a Certified Public Accountant, later joining the New Orleans Bank for Cooperatives and rising to the rank of Vice President and Treasurer. He also developed a warehouse rental business, and he served on the Board of Directors of Home Automation Inc. for 10 years.

During his career and later in his retirement, Mr. McLellan was active socially and in the community, volunteering as officer or board member of the R. L. Holman Vocational Center, the Lighthouse for the Blind Auxiliary, France-Amérique, the Garden District Association, and Trinity Episcopal School.

He was a troop leader for the Cub Scouts for two years. Additionally, he was an active member of several social and Carnival organizations, including the Sons of the Revolution, the Society of Colonial Wars, the Southern Yacht Club, the Boston Club, and the Stratford Club.

A memorial service will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church at 11:00 am on Wednesday, March 27, with visitation at the church from 10:00-11:00.
